Let's Get Together

Before Christmas Derek and I, with Mummsy and Mamello, conducted our first joint garden workshop. It went really well – great stuff actually! Mummsy rocks, but I think I have mentioned this before. Since then we have started two other big or semi-big projects together – we like to pretend we are big-time consultants for start up NGOs here. I guess that is what we are, minus the “big-time” part. We are working with two groups from around our area helping them understand organizational governance, proposal writing and business plans and the like. The first group is OTD (Okhahlamba Tertiary Developers) who are working to increase the amount of learners (that is what students are called here) that go on to further studies, creating a sort of Big Brother Big Sisters mentorship program African style and working to improve the status of the education system in general here. The other group, Incuqbo Youth Group (there are two clicks in this name, so I normally call it Musa’s group) is in the process of starting an organization that responds to the needs of abused boys and sexually assaulted girls in the area. Both are being led by passionate, determined and hardworking young people. We are honoured to help them make their country stronger!
