So most of you know I am a huge Sex in the City fan (thanks to Jackie initially and then the whole fabulousness of it all). The movie came out during my last week of school, so I was not able to go on opening night, or even opening week. Finally, this past week two of my friends and I went to see it and, I am not over reacting here, it was super amazing. I laughed and cried and felt inspired to have amazing relationships....
I really think the reason so many women get so attached to the characters from the show is because we all see either a part of ourselves, or an attribute we desire to see in ourselves, in Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda. It is fun to pick the girl we are most like; however, truth be told, most of us are an unequal combination of all four. Samantha is the part of us who says and does exactly what we are thinking or desiring, regardless of the consequences. She is bold, charming and strong. Charlotte is the nurturing and loving part of us all. She loved babies and puppies and believes in true and lasting love for herself and others, just like we all want to but sometimes have a hard time doing. Miranda represents the motivated, intelligent and opinionated side of every woman. She wants to run the New York City marathon, she does it. She wants make partner at her firm, she does it. She wants to raise Brady and be a successful lawyer, she does it. She wants to be with Steve, she tells him so!!!! And Carrie. Carrie is the confused, yet oh so fun part. She is never sure exactly what she wants (who of us really is) but throughout all her struggles and mistakes she remains bright and funny (sarcastic) and is always open to a good time.
Yes, it is true, I am very attached to these characters and feel comfortable with this explanation because it really isn't the drama, the sex or the wonderful fashion of it that brings me back - it is the relationships between the four girls and the realness of their love for each other. The movie was wonderful - seriously wonderful, but don't go see it unless you have seen all six seasons. You won't fully experience all there is to feel unless you know all four of them and their men intimately!
