Thanksgiving Day Preparations

The days leading up to Thanksgiving have been lovely and rather uneventful. We had several friends who were using us a back-up plan in case other plans didn't materialize or the weather was bad, but things worked out so that it will be just Derek, Gandalf and me on turkey day. We don't mind being a back-up plan. Actually, I think it is a pretty good place to be! We are excited to spend the day together as it will be the first full day in a long time and so have chosen to have a quiet day at home instead of partaking in the festivities somewhere else where we won't be as comfortable.

Oh wait, we spent a day together after school was out when we went shopping to use up all Derek's gift cards on Monday! That was a fun day filled with new pants and crab & artichoke dip!

Last year for Thanksgiving we were in Denver, but had only been here for a month and so decided to go out to eat. It was nice, but provided no left overs and a large hole in the wallet. This year we are doing it ALL ourselves. Everything.

"Have either of us ever made a turkey before," many people have been asking me. These people clearly do not know my husband very well, so I laugh at their silly question! For two days now Derek has been extensively supplementing his Nobokov and Cash biography reading with tips and ideas regarding turkey making. In fact, I came home yesterday to find the oven on with nothing inside. When I questioned my idiosyncratic husband he told me he was testing it! Yep! He had the thermometor in there to determine if there was any variance! So, I have no fear that the feast will be lovely with plenty of leftovers this year.

I am incharge of making the green bean casserole, rolls, my grandpa's mashed potatos and the corn casserole. Derek will be making the meat and the stuffing! Gandalf, being the picky eater he is, will probably just eat his dried niblits and will use that as an excuse to not help at all.

PS: Please look at Trey and Jen in their onesies on the Polar Express - see their blog. Oh, and, Cortney had her baby. See the newest Rockhill. We are excited to eat her cheeks off when we go to Nashville next month!
