Derek and I went hiking last weekend north of Boulder. There were various routes to take and Derek, ever the planner, had narrowed it down to two. One was a mild to moderate hike up to a lake and the other was a challenging hike to the top of a mountain peak. Of course I wanted to tackle the challenging one, but Derek convinced me we should do the later since it was a very sunny day and one reason the other route was so hard was because there were no trees or covering. I was frustrated and actually threw a mild temper tantrum. MILD! I kept thinking how neat it would be to say we finally climbed a 13er (we still haven't attempted a 14er either - such CO lingo! 13er = 13,000 feet high). Well, Derek was right, as usual, and the hike we did go on was beautiful and rather challenging. He did, however, make me bring warm clothes which were not needed and he actually made me feel bad and a little concerned when I showed him my selection. It was cotton and wearing cotton allows hypothermia to seize you should the opportunity arise. Seriously. It is July. JULY! I know there was still snow in some sporadic places and chunks of ice in the lake, but come on!
We had our second picnic lunch of the week (the first was at the Botanic Gardens) on a big 'ole rock looking out over the still slightly frozen lake.

This was the view:

After the hike we drove to Oskar Blues in Lyons. They brew one of Derek's favorite beers, Dale's Pale Ale, which comes in a can just to be cool like that! We went to see the Packway Handle Bluegrass band perform which reminded us of how much we miss living in Nashville with all the great live music. This place was kinda like the Station Inn. It was a great time and not just because we had some good food and some good brews while listening to some good Bluegrass Music, but also because Derek and I went ever further back to our TN roots (Yep, I have them) and played in a creek while we waited for the show to start.
